About Us
Reece Baird
Reece Baird began his career in 2000 as a spar builder and traditional rigger, building a strong foundation in classic construction techniques before expanding into modern rigging systems. He later founded his own company, specializing in both traditional and contemporary sailboats, with projects ranging from high-end yachts to consulting for well-known vessels and owners along the Eastern Seaboard.
Reece joined the Shining Waters team as a boatbuilder and foreman, where he has played a key role in growing and strengthening the service department. His broad technical expertise and leadership have helped expand capabilities across complex rigging and boatbuilding projects.
Among the first certified Boatbuilders through the Nova Scotia Boatbuilding Association, Reece grew up sailing and exploring the islands of Mahone Bay. He later sailed as crew aboard several tall ships, experiences that led to consulting opportunities on large-scale rigging projects and took him around the globe. He is currently three years into the construction of a 30-foot traditional Nova Scotia schooner—custom modified to suit his needs and approximately a year and a half from completion—and also owns and sails DN Class iceboats; aptly named Bluenose and Columbia.
